Gary Abbott unhappy after Sittingbourne friendly against Concord Rangers is called off

Sittingbourne boss Gary Abbott is unhappy Saturday's friendly at Concord Rangers has been called off – admits he found out by chance.

Club secretary John Pitts checked the Canvey side’s fixtures and saw they were at home to Thurrock instead.

Abbott (pictured) said: "I agreed the game about two months ago but when I rang them up to ask what was happening they said they had contacted us.

"We could have gone over there, found two teams ready to play them and it would have been embarrassing."

Bourne will train in the morning, with Gillingham playing Croydon Athletic at Bourne Park in the afternoon. Croydon’s Mayfield Round ground is unavailable.

Bourne were at home to Lordswood last night (Thursday) and then visit Hythe on Tuesday.

Midfielder Ryan Johnson has signed and Abbott hopes to sign youngster Steve Marshall.

He is also keen on a striker with experience with Midlands club Hednesford. Abbott said: "He is strong, holds the ball up well and is quick."
