American-style milkshake and waffle house to open in Eldon Place, Broadstairs

An American-style milkshake and waffle house is opening on Broadstairs seafront on Saturday.

Family-run Kent Catering Company is launching the new venture next to its sandwich bar in Eldon Place on Saturday, April 1.

Janet Summerscales, her daughter Isabelle and partner Darryl Perry are the family team behind it, alongside Louie Wilson, Alice Fox and Charlotte Button.

“We’ll serve any type of milkshake that people can think of,” said Ms Summerscales,

“People can make their own flavours - we’ll have cakes and sweets which they can choose from.

“They’ll get a basic shake and they’ll be able to add things. We’ll also have a menu of shakes with flavours that go nicely together.

“The waffles will have ice cream, or whipped cream or crispy bacon with maple syrup on top.”

Ms Summerscales said the theme is an American style diner.

“We’ve moved the bar back as far as possible so we can have a couple of people sit in there and we’ll have a table and chairs outside,” she said.

“We’ll be giving away some sample shots during the launch.”

She added: “We opened the sandwich shop last January and it’s going well so we hope this will too, especially once the summer starts and the weather gets warmer.”
