Thanet Community Lotto will be another chance to hit the jackpot

For those who missed out on the massive Euromillions jackpot last week, there will soon be another chance to hit the jackpot.

Thanet Community Lotto will be a chance to win a weekly prize of £25,000, and for every £1 ticket sold online, 50p will go directly to projects and good causes in the Isle.

Players will also be able to decide which cause they want to support.

Tickets will go on sale later this year but now is the time for local good causes to put themselves forward for selection.

To be eligible to register as a Good Cause, organisations must:

  • Be set up locally and operating for the benefit of residents in Thanet on a not-for-profit basis
  • Be a registered charity or a Community Interest Company or have a constitution/set of rules that have community or social objectives
  • Have a bank account in the name of the organisation with two signatories
  • Maintain transparency and accountability of financial assistance at all times
  • Have no undue restrictions on membership of the organisation
  • Are not groups promoting religious, faith or political ideology

The draw has been created by Thanet District Council.

Council leader Cllr Chris Wells said: “The community lotto is a great way for local people to help fund the projects that mean the most to them.

"When buying a ticket online, they’ll be able to directly select which good cause they want to support, so everyone’s a winner.

"I’d encourage any local groups that meet the criteria to come along next week to find out more about how they can get involved.”

Representatives of Thanet’s charity, voluntary and community sector are invited to the Yarrow Hotel on Tuesday, October 17, from 7 to 8.30pm to find out more about how their organisation could benefit.

Confirmation of attendance is required in advance, e-mail communications@thanet.gov.uk

The council has appointed independent lottery manager Gatherwell to run the draw on its behalf.
