Police called to armed robbery in Northdown Road, Cliftonville, Margate

Police are investigating after a suspected armed robbery.

The driver of a security van was threatened with a weapon outside the Tesco Metro in Cliftonville at around 2.30pm.

The robber made off with "a quantity" of cash, but the driver was unhurt.

The supermarket on the corner of Northdown Road and Devonshire Gardens was taped off for several hours while officers investigated.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 2.31pm on Friday 19 August to Northdown Road, Margate following reports of a robbery in which a security van driver was reportedly threatened with a weapon.

"It is reported that a quantity of cash was taken.

"No injuries have been reported and no arrests have been made. Officers are the scene continuing to make enquiries."
