Boat destroyed in fire at Ramsgate Marina

Two yachts have been destroyed following a fire at Ramsgate marina.

At its height, around 20 firefighters were needed to tackle the flames, which broke out in the east side of the inner marina in the early hours of the morning.

It left one yacht severely damaged while the second sank.

Another three vessels were damaged.

The blaze was extinguished after fire crews used breathing apparatus, a compressed air foam system, hose reel jet and covering jet.

All people have been accounted for and one woman has been treated by paramedics for smoke inhalation.

Kevin Gibbs lives nearby and saw what happened: "The fire started around about 01.30 this morning, I notice the back of the vessel lights kept flicking on and off and then all of a sudden the back of the vessel went up in flames.

"The man that owned the vessel escaped through a hatch at the front of the boat with the help of two people. The fire brigade were on scene around about 01.40am."

It is not known yet how the fire started.
