Man arrested after car crashes into house in Addiscombe Road, Margate

A man has been arrested after a car smashed into another vehicle before ploughing into a house while being chased by police.

The crashes, which happened in Addiscombe Road, Margate just after 11am today, left a woman injured.

Police were called at 11.11am to reports that a vehicle had been hit by a Mercedes, which then careered into the building on the corner of Durban Road.

Officers had signalled for the vehicle to stop before it crashed into a Mini, leaving the female driver needing hospital treatment for minor injuries.

The road was taped off while police investigated, causing traffic delays in the area.

A man thought to be the driver of the black Mercedes has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and is waiting to be interviewed.

A police spokesman confirmed an internal investigation had been launched, adding: "As is mandatory when there has been police contact, the incident has been referred to the force’s professional standards department."
