Margate: Police treating cause of fire at a derelict school site in Northdown Road as suspicious

A fire at a derelict school site is being treated as suspicious by police.

Fire crews were called to the blaze in a disused wooden cabin on the old school site in Northdown Road, Margate, last Wednesday.

The cabin was completely destroyed and police are investigating.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police is investigating a report of a fire in Northdown Park Road, Margate.

"The fire took place in a disused wooden cabin on an old school site between 7pm and 7.30pm on Wednesday 15 November 2017.

"There were no reported injuries.

"The cause of the fire is being treated as suspicious and officers are asking for any witnesses or anyone with information to contact Kent Police on 01843 222289 quoting reference ZY/056660/17.

"Alternatively contact Kent Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111."

A KFRS spokesman said: "KFRS crews were called to a portacabin alight on a derelict school site on Northdown Road, Margate.

"Firefighters used three main jets to tackle the fire.

"The portacabin was 100% destroyed by fire."
