Broadstairs: Pilgrims Hospice A Night To Shine takes place tonight

Pilgrims Hospices is preparing for its new sponsored walk dubbed A Night To Shine.

The charity hopes this special night will bring the community together to raise funds and awareness for hospice care in east Kent.

The walk takes place this evening, and offers the choice of either 5k or 8k routes, starting in Broadstairs with a stroll along the beach to Louisa Bay Gap.

Events are also taking place in Ashford and Canterbury tonight.

Robert Grew, events organiser for Pilgrims Hospices, said: “Who could fail to have fun with the carnival atmosphere we have planned?

"We can’t wait to see you there.”

The walk will set off at 7pm from The Pavilion, Harbour Street, and supporters can enjoy music, a friendly party atmosphere and an energetic warm-up.

Flashing and glowing merchandise will be available, with fancy dress optional.

There will be a quiet pause when supporters can remember loved ones.

Everyone who takes part will receive a memory lantern with their registration pack, which can be personalised to take along.

Karen Kenward, Pilgrims community fundraising manager, said: “I hope our A Night To Shine walk will bring families and friends together.

“You can walk as a group or just join in. We will make everyone welcome, and you are sure to have fun whilst raising money to support your local hospice.”

Registration is now closed but you can turn up and register in person tonight for £20 for adults and £15 for under-18s.

All under-threes go free.

Care worker Kathryn Day will be taking part in remembrance of her grandfather, Victor Day.
