Nervous surfers, the web-wary and complete computer beginners were among dozens to benefit from internet training sessions in Thanet this month.

Ramsgate-based SES Tutors Ltd has teamed up with UK Online to help more women log on to the internet and to encourage others who are already using it to try something new.

Courses provided tips on using social networking websites, online auction tools and using the internet to research family histories.

Other sessions included advice on staying safe online and accessing government and council services.

Helen Milner, managing director of UK Online training centres, said: “Unless you try the internet for yourself, you won’t know if it suits you or not.

“Whatever your fears about getting online, you can still make 2009 the year you give it a go.”
