Ramsgate: David Turner pleads guilty to possessing child sex images

A former Thanet school church warden has admitted having thousands of illegal sex images of children.

David Turner pleaded guilty at Canterbury Crown Court to seven charges of possessing and making the images and movies.

The 72-year-old is also facing another charge of being “knowingly concerned” with the illegal importation of a child sex toy in March last year, believed to be a blow-up doll.

Turner, of Hollicondane Road, Ramsgate, appeared in court the day after the death of his wife, who has been ill for many years. He was her carer.

Judge Simon James adjourned sentence until July and ordered the preparation of a probation report but told the pensioner that "all options" were available including an immediate jail sentence.

The Crown Prosecution Service is to review the importation charge and Turner did not enter a plea.

But he admitted possessing or making more than 34,000 illegal child sex images and movies last November.

Turner denied an eighth charge of possessing 25 extreme pornographic images and the Crown Prosecution Service accepted his plea.

He was given bail until the hearing July with conditions on his access to the Internet.
