Cliftonville house where former museum curator Robert Bradley died in floor collapse fetches £82,000 at auction

The house where a man died when the floor collapsed underneath him has gone for £82,000, despite a guide price of just £25,000.

Former museum curator Robert Bradley, 67, died at his home in Cliftonville in May when he fell through rotten floorboards.

Rescue efforts were hampered by the house’s state of disrepair and the amount of goods inside, which included Second World War firearms and memorabilia.

Fire crews, paramedics and police were initially unable to enter the house in Northdown Road, but ultimately worked through the night to try and save Mr Bradley.

Bomb disposal experts were called in after the hoard of old munitions was discovered but all tuned out to have been deactivated.

Due to the state of the house it was not expected to fetch anywhere near the standard price for the area - according to Rightmove the average price of a house in Cliftonville is £148,672.

The listing stated it is just 200m away from the sea and “is situated in the heart of Margate, a short walk from numerous shops and restaurants.”

It also highlighted the property “requires a full programme of refurbishment”.

The sale was managed by property firm Auction House.

Mr Bradley was the former curator of Margate Museum, running the attraction until its closure in 2008.

At the time of his death, Mr Bradley was praised for the work he had done compiling the museum archives and his efforts to build the Second World War collection.
