Baby bottle steriliser caused blaze in Kingston Avenue, Margate

Firefighters tackled a blaze at a house in Margate yesterday evening.

Two fire engines rushed to the scene in Kingston Avenue at 7pm after a resident returned to find alarms sounding and smoke billowing from the building.

Crews tackled the ground floor kitchen fire wearing breathing apparatus. They used a hose reel to extinguish the blaze as well as a special fan to clear the smoke.

The fire is believed to have started after a baby bottle steriliser was left on the hob.

Crews left the scene at about 7.20pm.
