Cliftonville: Fire in boarded up care home in Edgar Road

Firefighters have tackled a blaze at a boarded-up care home in Edgar Road, Cliftonville.

There were reports the road was temporarily closed because of the fire, and although the blaze is now out, crews remain at the scene.

Crews were called to the three-storey derelict building at about 3.15pm and firefighters used breathing apparatus to enter the property.

Four fire engines were sent to the scene and found the fire on the second floor of the buildilng.

Crews also carried out a search of the premises and found it was empty.

The incident was reduced to three fire engines just after 4pm, but crews remain on the scene damping down hotspots.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
