Fire in block of flats in Margate

Three residents suffered from the effects of smoke inhalation after a fire in a block of flats in Margate last night.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a fire within the residential block in Milmead Road soon after 10pm.

Crews wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire located in the stairwell on the second floor.

Firefighters carried out a search of the building and residents were advised to keep their front doors closed and to open windows for ventilation.

Three people were reported as suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation.
