Former Margate radio presenter back in jail after public sex acts in Maidstone

A former radio presenter with a compulsion for flashing and performing sex acts in public has found himself back in jail again.

Intelligent Ricky Neville blames his diagnosed OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) for his sex addiction, a court heard.

The 47-year-old father was recalled to prison for twice breaching a sexual offences prevention order by lurking in bushes at Brenchley Gardens in Maidstone and exposing himself in the grounds of the town’s snooker club.

His earliest release date is May next year. A 20-month sentence imposed at Maidstone Crown Court on Wednesday for the breaches will be served concurrently.

Neville, of Grosvenor Place, Margate, was jailed for three-and-a-half years by Canterbury Crown Court in December for breaching the order three times and outraging public decency.

Because of his previous offending he had been banned from public places such as parks, churchyards, woods, seafront promenades and going within 100 metres of schools.

But on February 2 this year police went to Brenchley Gardens after reports of a suspicious man in the bushes.

Prosecutor Trevor Wright said twice married Neville was doing up his trousers and suspected of exposing himself.

Then on March 3 he was spotted behind a wooden board looking over the top as a young woman was passing. The lower part of his body was bare and he appeared to be performing a sex act.

When interviewed, Neville, who has 22 previous sexual offences on his record, said he had found the woman walking by attractive.

“He is disgusted with his behaviour..." defending, Philippa Beswick

Philippa Beswick, defending, said Neville’s OCD diagnosed a few years ago was directly linked to his sex addiction. He had been receiving treatment from a London clinic.

“He realises he has a problem,” she said. “He is disgusted with his behaviour. He has done programmes and they haven’t worked. He says it is a compulsion and a impulsion.”

Judge Philip Statman told Neville, said to also have worked in the “publicity industry” in London: “I have no doubt your behaviour is compulsive. You have a total inability to control your sexual urges.”

He warned that an extended sentence would be imposed for any future offences.
