Westwood Cross: Bark in the Park event

A week of four legged friend fun is in full swing at Westwood Cross.

The shopping centre's Bark in the Park week began on Monday, kickstarting a jam-packed week of activities.

Since yesterday, the centre has been trialling a dog creche, which will run until Sunday.

Visitors who bring their dogs along can shop care-free while their pet is looked after by a member of The Muttley Crew Family, a local doggy day-care service.

Shoppers who visited the centre - dubbed Westwoof Cross for this week only - yesterday and Monday were able to meet Dogcilla, Dog Trust's larger than life mascot.

Famous doggy-dancing duo Ashleigh and Pudsey were due to perform today, but following the news of Pudsey's passing Ashleigh will no longer be attending.

However, Britain's Got Talent finalists Lucy Heath and her dog Trip Hazard will be wowing crowds with a performance tomorrow, and some fans will be able to meet the pair.

Francesca Donovan, centre manager at Westwood Cross, said: "We were really saddended to hear of Pudsey's passing and our sympathies go out to Ashleigh at what must be an incredibly difficult time.

"We are a nation of pet lovers and this week has been designed for our guests of all ages to enjoy a variety of activities including watching a talented dog such as Pudsey.

"So with this in mind we are pleased to announce that BGT finalist Trip Hazard will be coming to our shopping centre on Thursday to give us an amazing performance of dog agility and obedience plus of course the cute factor that he has in abundance."

From tomorrow until Sunday, the centre will hold a pet-themed market for owners to enjoy.

On Saturday, the park will play host to the Bark in the Park dog show, welcoming pooches from across the district to take part.

Francesca Donovan said: “We are still looking for local residents to enter their dogs into our Bark in the Park Dog Show on Saturday 29 July.

"Categories range from ‘dog with the waggiest tail’ to ‘best rescue dog’ and we can’t wait to meet our visitor’s furry friends!”

To round off the week of fun, Naughty Fifi and owner Mlle Belle will be walking around on Sunday entertaining guests.
