Festival promises a great weekend

The second annual G-Fest music and entertainment festival promises a fun weekend in Garlinge.

It is put on by the Garlinge Residents Association and centres around the High Street, the Hussar and Rodney pubs and the Methodist church hall and gardens.

Garlinge Residents Association chair Kerry Boyd said: “We are really looking forward to our second G-Fest, with lots of activities and entertainment going on at all three locations, not forgetting the Hussar’s annual beer festival.

“Thanks to all of our sponsors, volunteers and partners for their continued support.”

The festival begins on Friday (September 6) with the start of the Hussar’s beer festival which will have a large selection of real ales and ciders in the garden marquee all weekend, followed by music from Barkin’ Mad at 8.30pm.

The Rodney features In With Flynn and their Rat Pack style entertainment from 9pm.

On Saturday, the official opening of the weekend is in the church gardens at 10am performed by local broadcaster Johnny Lewis. Activities include stalls, games, sideshows, while local PCSO Adrian Butterworth will be in the village stocks and the target for soaking sponges.

From 1pm the East Kent Piping Society pipes and drums will perform traditional Scottish
music.

The Rodney is providing a hog roast during the afternoon while the Hussar is running a barbecue.

At the Hussar there will be music from Ash Mandrake, One Love (Paul Messenger) and Helluva Day; at the Rodney music comes from the East Kent Piping Society and Paul May, while the pub also hosts a family quiz night.

Bikers, beards and beer are the order of the day at the Hussar on Sunday with a custom bike show from 1pm, with live music from Andy Mack and Jez Gold, while the Rodney features a set from One Love.

Organiser David Greely said: “Support is an ingredient to this event and the festival proves a way to demonstrate how unique this village and its community is.”
