Graffiti tags repeatedly scribbled on Broadstairs seafront wall

Vandals have repeatedly targeted steps on Broadstairs seafront which were in the process of being painted.

For three nights in a row graffiti tags were left on the wall near the information kiosk.

Members of Broadstairs Harbour and Seafront Group, which was started in February by Andrew Rogers, have been cleaning up the area and raised £5,500 from public donations to get the painting work started.

Mr Rogers said: “We are trying to make the harbour and seafront area better but these people are scribbling graffiti when the steps aren’t even finished.

“It happened on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Each day paint went back over it.

“They think it’s funny but it’s not, every bit of graffiti is costing us more and more money for each time they do it.”

The team comprises residents, businessmen, seafront cafe owners and fishermen.

Mr Rogers added: “We took a look at the area and realised everything privately owned looked nice but everything council owned was dreadful.

“We understand the council has no money, or intention to spend it on this area, so we asked to work with them to allow us to do work.”

This week the group’s members are sanding down and repainting benches along the seafront and they are hoping to begin a project to rescue the boathouse building.
