Thanet Extra launches the We Love Thanet campaign

Let’s prove Thanet’s doom and gloom merchants wrong.

That’s the message behind the Thanet Extra’s We Love Thanet campaign which we are launching this week.

We reckon 2015 will be Thanet’s year so we want to celebrate its successes, praise the people that make it so special and talk up what is undoubtedly an amazing place to live.

We need your help. Tell us what you love about this area, the places you love or who you love.

Send us your positive stories about people’s successes or how they have gone the extra mile.

In short, tell us what makes you proud to say you are from Thanet.

Editor Leo Whitlock said: “Thanet sometimes gets a hard time but the national focus is coming our way, not least because of the looming general election and a certain candidate standing in Thanet South.

”It’s time to stand up for this area because if we don’t stick up for Thanet, no-one else will.

“That doesn’t mean we won’t cover the horrible stories that break but we certainly hope to bring a bit more balance.”

While there are some world-class and truly gorgeous places in Thanet, for me it’s the people who live and work here that makes it so special.
They really care about the place and there is a real sense of pride.
But best of all, the people here are open, genuine and honest.
All facets of human life are here and that gives it its richness, diversity and makes it bloody interesting.

Since joining the Thanet Extra team nearly three years ago I’ve never ceased to be impressed by the diversity of stories, campaigns and celebrations to write about.
And I’ve never before covered a news area where the residents are so passionate and proud about where they live.
Thanet faces many challenges and changes and I’m sure there are many people across the Island committed to tackling them head on. I look forward to helping bring our readers up to date with the very latest developments, both online and in print.

Having only moved to the area recently it has been very encouraging to see the number of people who are keen to be involved in the community.
There is work to be done in Thanet but there are many people who are willing to put their views forward, work towards regeneration and who aim to make this area the place they are happy to live in.
It has also been a pleasure to write stories of success over the Christmas period for local charities. It goes to show that good things are happening here in Thanet and the work must go on!
