A knife-wielding robber is being hunted by police after threatening a woman and running off with cash from a Birchington shop.

A man went into the Best One convenience store, in Minnis Road, before targeting the female staff member.

He demanded she hand over cash from the shop till, before walking round behind the counter and opening the till himself.

The robber took money from the till and then fled. He was last seen escaping along Dane Road at about 5.45pm on Monday.

Shortly before the incident, he had been spotted smoking a cigarette at the corner of Dane Road and Minnis Road.

The offender is described as white, of medium build, 5ft 8in, and was wearing a grey beanie hat, a thick blue jacket, grey trousers and brown/orange shoes.

Detectives are keen to identify the suspect and would like to hear from anyone who may have information.

Witnesses are asked to phone DC Brad Shingles on 01227 868118, quoting crime reference ZY/3574/14, or Kent Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
