Crash on A28 between Thanet and Canterbury

A main road between Thanet and Canterbury was shut for nearly 10 hours following a crash between a car and a van.

Three people were injured in the accident, on the A28 Island Road between Grove Ferry Hill at Upstreet and the A253 at Sarre.

The road was closed in both directions from 6.40am until 4.30pm.

Two men were taken to a local hospital and another man was taken to a hospital in London.

Two fire engines attended and firefighters used hydraulic rescue equipment to remove the roof of the car.

Police are directing traffic and motorists are being warned to take alternative routes.

Meanwhile, there has been a separate accident on the A28 at Sarre, which is likely to add to the delays.

Police, ambulance and fire crews were called just before 10am, and firefighters cut the roof off one of the vehicles to free an elderly man.

He is being treated by paramedics.

The road also reopened at 4.30pm.
