Polish man killed in Margate named by Kent Police

Detectives have named the man who died in Margate at the weekend.

He is 45-year-old Slawomir Bartos from the city of Gnienzo in Poland.

Mr Bartos was a single man who moved to Margate about a year ago.

A painter and decorator by trade, he had been working in the construction industry in Thanet.

And colleague Ben Turner, from Dover, has paid tribute to Mr Bartos.

He said: "Slavo, as we called him, was a wonderful chap who we thoroughly enjoyed working with.

"He was the hardest-working person I've ever met and he will be a huge loss to us but more importantly to his family back home in Poland."

Investigating officer DI Ivan Beasley, said: "We have been liaising closely with Mr Bartos’s family both in the UK and in Poland."

Officers were called to reports of a disturbance in Market Place, Margate, just after 1am on Saturday.

Stanislaw Dubis, 49, of Market Place, Margate, has been charged with murder and is due to appear at Maidstone Crown Court later this month.

A 23-year-old man of no fixed address was released without charge.
