Kent Fire and Rescue Service puts out rubbish fire in Margate Road, Broadstairs

A man was taken to hospital after he tried to tackle a rubbish fire with a garden hose in Broadstairs.

Crews were called to Margate Road near Westwood Cross shopping centre to find the man, believed to be in his 50s, suffering the effects of smoke inhalation at 1.04pm.

He was given oxygen therapy by firefighters and paramedics took him to hospital before the scene was cleared at 3.37pm.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "There are no reports of any other injuries and the cause of the fire is unknown."
