Ramsgate bomb threat: Police issue appeal after suspected hoax

Police investigating a bomb scare which sparked a major alert in Ramsgate town centre want anyone with information to come forward.

Officers descended on Grange road last Wednesday evening after a suspicious package was spotted on the bonnet of a parked car.

A cordon was set up and homes were evacuated while the Ministry of Defence's explosive ordnance disposal team carried out a controlled explosion.

It was later confirmed to have been a hoax.

Police are now hunting the person behind it, and want to speak to anyone with information.

Senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Kath Way said: "At the moment we are keeping an open mind as to where the device came from.

"We are carrying out a number of enquiries to help identify the person behind this apparent hoax.

"We appreciate there is the possibility that it might have been an ill-judged joke and if that’s the case, I urge the person responsible to come forward so the matter can be quickly resolved.

"Incidents like this can cause a lot of unnecessary worry and disruption for residents living in the area so it is important that anyone who has any information about this device, gets in touch by calling 01843 222289 quoting ZY/036730/15.
