Margate: Emergency services called to crash on A28 Canterbury Road in Westbrook

A huge emergency response was sent to the scene of a crash involving a police car and van in Margate.

The A28 Canterbury Road in Westbrook was closed in both directions following the collision at around 1pm.

A police officer was taken to hospital with injuries.

A police spokesman earlier said: "Officers are currently in Canterbury Road, Margate, following a collision involving a police car and a van at around 1pm .

"The road is closed by Westbrook."

The patrol car was heading towards Birchington at the time of the accident.

An ambulance spokesman said: "Ambulance crews have attended the scene following reports of a two vehicle RTC on Canterbury Road, Margate at approximately 1.10pm.

"One patient has been assessed and treated before being taken to William Harvey Hospital."

An eyewitness said the police car may have been on a 999 call.

The crash happened between the junctions of Hartsdown Road and George V Avenue.

Traffic was being diverted down Hartsdown Road.
