Broadstairs: Beach hut burglaries at Viking Bay

A spate of beach hut burglaries has sparked a police investigation.

Police are investigating reports of burglaries in beach huts in the Viking Bay area of Broadstairs.

It was reported that a beach hut was broken into between 6pm on Sunday, September 24 and 1pm the following day on the beach near Victoria Parade.

Nothing was taken but damage was caused to the door and litter was left inside.

Officers have been made aware of similar damage being caused to three other beach huts in the same area during September and are making enquiries into the break-ins.

Beach hut owners are also being reminded to review the security of their plots.

Inspector Lara Connor from Thanet Community Safety Unit said: "As the summer season draws to an end, many people are less likely to return to their beach huts on a regular basis during the colder months, so it is important nothing valuable is stored within them.

"We also want to ask owners of the huts to consider what measures they can take to keep the huts secure, invest in a good padlock or locks and ensure the doors and windows are not damaged or easy to get into."

Anyone with information regarding the damage is asked to contact Kent Police on 01843 222289 quoting ZY/45660/17.
