Police seek robber who pounced on pensioner at wine bar

Detectives have just released an image of a suspect after a pensioner was pounced on outside a Margate wine bar.

The 69-year-old man tried to fight off his attacker with a walking stick but the assailant pulled off the victim’s gold neck chain and fled.

Officers are seeking witnesses to the incident outside Cecil’s Wine Bar in Cecil Square, Margate at 2.30 pm on Wednesday, August 28.

The robber sat with the elderly man and asked him for 20p which was declined. The thief then pulled at the gold chain and made off with it despite opposition from its owner.

The suspect is described as a white man, of Eastern European appearance, in his 50s, of fat build, 5ft 6in tall, with cropped black hair. He was wearing a white and blue England football top, black jogging bottoms and a dark blue coat.
