Road closed after sinkhole opens up in Princes Road, Ramsgate

A sinkhole has opened up in the middle of a road - shutting the route.

Princes Road in Ramsgate is closed in both road directions after the ground gave way.

Traffic is believed to be queuing from Central Road to the A254 Margate Road.

A Kent County Council spokesperson said: “A Highway Steward attended reports of a small void in the road caused by subsidence in Princes Road, Ramsgate, at 2.30pm.

“Contractors working on behalf of Southern Water have now closed the road in order to carry out investigations and repairs.”

Today's collapse comes just a few days after a cavernous hole opened up in the car park at Margate lido, thought to have been caused by heavy rainfall.

And in May, Stanley Road in Broadstairs had to be shut after a void appeared in the residential street.
