Margate: Homes evacuated after tumble dryer fire

Three adults and a child have been left homeless following a fire at a house in Margate.

It is understood the damage was caused by a tumble dryer that went up in flames in the kitchen of the property in Grosvenor Place.

No one was injured but the family and residents living in neighbouring properties had to be evacuated as firefighters attempted to stop the blaze spreading.

They needed to wear breathing gear as they tackled the flames and took around an hour to bring the fire under control.

It broke out at about 7.11pm and is thought to have been caused by an electrical fault.

A fire service spokesman said: "Kent Fire and Rescue Service volunteers and the British Red Cross are attending to see to the welfare of the occupants."

An electrical safety engineer from UK Power Networks was also called to the scene.
