Man freed after crash between motorbike and car in Millmead Road, Margate

A motorcyclist is fighting for his life in hospital after a serious crash in Margate.

Police, ambulances, fire crews and the air ambulance were called to College Road, near the junction with Durban Road, just before 9.30pm yesterday.

The crash involved a grey Hyundai i10 car and a 125cc motorcycle.

The biker, a 27-year-old local man, suffered serious head injuries and was rushed to a London hospital.

His condition is described as "critical but stable".

The driver, a 62-year-old man, was trapped in the wreckage by his injuries and had to be freed by firefighters using hydraulic rescue equipment.

He was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, and later discharged.

The road remained closed for six hours while investigations took place.

DS Scott Lynch from the serious collision investigation unit said: "This is the second serious collision involving a motorbike and car in a residential area of Thanet that we have attended in the last fortnight.
