RSPCA releases video of man punching dog at Newgate Lower Promenade in Margate

A dog owner caught on camera repeatedly punching a cowering dog until it yelps is being sought by the RSPCA.

The animal charity is appealing for anyone who recognises the man - seen clearly attacking the pet - to come forward.

Video has been released of the incident, filmed by a member of the public at Newgate Lower Promenade, near the lido in Margate on Sunday.

The witness saw the attack, but it was only when they looked back on their dashcam that they found the footage, which doesn't tally with the actual timings of the attack.

In the footage, which the RSPCA is releasing today as part of its investigation, the man can be seen punching the cowering dog three times at around 5pm. He then attaches the dog’s lead and walks away, raising his hand to the camera.

RSPCA inspector Deborah Pert said: "It's very concerning to see this footage and I have concerns about the welfare of this dog.

"It is not acceptable to punch a dog, either as punishment or discipline. It is never acceptable to be violent towards an animal and I’m keen to trace this individual.
