Police and helicopter respond to 'incident' in Minster, Thanet

A suspected gunman has been released on bail after armed police were called to Minster on Monday.

A 48-year-old man was given police bail pending further investigation until Friday, November 4.

Officers in several vehicles and the police helicopter descended on the village in Thanet at around 1.30pm.

At least eight patrol cars were seen in the Rose Gardens area, while the aircraft hovered overhead.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police is attending an incident at an address in Brockmans Close, Minster, Ramsgate following a report of a man in possession of a suspected firearm at 1.29pm on Monday 10 October.

"Armed officers have attended and a cordon was set up as a precaution. A man has been arrested and is in custody.

"Officers remain at the scene, carrying out enquiries."

Reporter Ellis Stephenson was at the scene. He said armed units left at around 4pm, but officers remained and the cordon was still in place.

People were not being allowed into houses, but are now allowed to leave Brockmans Close.

At one point, Tothill Street, Fairfield Road, Orchard Close and Brockmans Close were all sealed off.

No shots are thought to have been fired.

The incident is not thought to be connected to earlier reports of a man seen with a gun in the Birchington area.
