Yacht towed to safety after running aground off the Thanet coast

Dover Coastguard and two lifeboat crews were called to help a yacht taking on water during the early hours of Sunday morning.

Crews were called to help the vessel, which ran aground in shallow water off the coast of Margate, just after 4am.

The yacht had lost steering and power after hitting a sewage pipe.

The two people on board were not injured.

A Dover Coastguard spokesman said: "The vessel has been towed to Ramsgate to assess any damage."
