Ramsgate Head Coach Lloyd Blackman targets good run-in

Lloyd Blackman insists Ramsgate won’t resort to cruise mode as they head into the final eight games of the Ryman League, Division 1 South season.

A 2-0 success at strugglers Three Bridges on Saturday maintained the club’s impressive away form.

It was their sixth win in the last 10 trips on the road, taking them beyond the 50-point mark, with head coach Blackman eager for a strong finish.

The form table for the last 10 matches sees Rams sitting third behind leaders Tooting and nearest challengers Dorking Wanderers, another indication of how well they have done.

Blackman said: “Our away form has been pretty impressive and the boys can be immensely proud of what they have achieved in the last couple of months.

“People may think our season is done but we won’t be taking our foot off the gas. We have set ourselves a little target in terms of points and want to finish as high in the table as we can.”

Substitute Sam Lawford and Tom Chapman scored second-half goals to defeat Bridges, overcoming a difficult pitch at Jubilee Field.

Blackman said: “They have had drainage problems there, it was short on grass with bare patches, lumps and divots.

“I don’t think the referee was too happy with it, I wasn’t as well. It was the worst pitch I have seen for a long time at this level.”

Lawford had replaced Aaron Millbank, who was forced off with a hamstring problem seven minutes before half-time.

Blackman will monitor Millbank’s recovery this week, ahead of the visit of Horsham on Saturday (3pm).
