Margate manager Nikki Bull not ruling out bringing new faces to Hartsdown but not at the risk of upsetting the great team spirit within the squad

Nikki Bull says he remains open to the possibility of bringing in fresh faces but does not want to disrupt the great team spirit his squad have forged.

Margate’s 2-0 win against Hayes & Yeading on Saturday made it four wins from five and lifted them up to eighth in the Vanarama National League South table – their highest position this season.

Bull missed out on signing winger Sean Shields from Ebbsfleet United last week, but the Gate boss says he would like to provide some support for 10-goal top scorer Freddie Ladapo, who, he admits is having to do ‘a lot of donkey work’ at the moment.

Bull, who was named the Vanarama South manager-of-the-month for January on Friday, said: “It’s two-fold really. I’m wary of Fred getting an injury and at the moment we could probably do with another one or two attacking players but then we’ve gone and won again with the squad I’ve got so I don’t want to upset things too much.

“I’m only going to bring in players who I think can add to us going forward. I’m working on one or two things but if they don’t pan out then we’ll keep rolling with what I’ve got.”

Gate’s win against Yeading was the result of goals from Charlie Wassmer and Luke Moore in the opening 34 minutes and Bull explained: “It might have looked a comfortable scoreline, but the pitch and the conditions made it anything but.

“The boys stuck to the gameplan and I was delighted to get the three points.

“I would have taken 0-0 at half-time but as it was we got our noses in front and I thought the second half was pretty comfortable. We were solid, we had good shape and we continued to look dangerous on the break.”

Former Gate boss Terry Brown was among those watching the game and afterwards Bull revealed his predecessor had congratulated him on the job he was doing.

Bull explained: “It was nice of Terry to come and support us. I told him not to expect too much because we don’t play a lot of football these days but he said I must be doing something right because I’d got Charlie to score from a set piece and Luke to score from outside the area which he said he didn't manage in the two years he was here!”
