There were 78 finishers in the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust Thanet 5k and 10k runs on Sunday, writes Alan Newman.

The event was held on a scenic course from Baypoint Leisure Centre, Ramsgate, through PegwellBay nature reserve along the Kent coastal walks.

Natalie Maclean (24min05sec) was first in the 5k from David Robinson (26.24). The 10k winners were Anthony Poole (48.24) and Sarah Stout (55.31).

Former GB international long and triple jumper, Michelle Griffith Robinson, a mentor on the Trust’s Get on Track programme, led a warm-up and then ran the 10k in 1:07.54 to encourage the fund raisers.

The Get on Track programme pairs youngsters with former world-class athletes and has so far reached more than 170,000 young people. More than 70% of those who enter the Get on Track programme have moved into education, employment or training within five months of completion.
