Paintstripper attack on cars in Ramsgate

Eight cars have been doused in paint stripper in a wanton vandalism attack in Ramsgate.

The vehicles were parked in a cul-de-sac off Whitehall Road when they were hit in the early hours of Tuesday.

A reward has been put up to catch the culprit. The likely repair bill is expected to run into thousands of pounds.

David Copeland's blue Ford Fiesta was one of those attacked.

The 34-year-old said: "It's not worth claiming on my insurance because the cost of repair would be the same as the cost of the car.

"One of my neighbours had only had his car for a week so he owes thousands of pounds on it and this has massively inconvenienced him.

"These attacks have caused at least £25,000 of damage in total.

"I'd like to see the person who did this to me and my neighbours caught.

"Last year in the same car park around 10 cars had their windows smashed.

"There's no CCTV. I've asked around about the possibility but no one is taking responsibility for the car park as it's apparently private property.

"It's embarrassing having to drive around in a car that looks like this."

Pictures of the damaged cars in Elizabeth Kemp Court were posted on Facebook in an attempt to find the person responsible.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police is appealing for witnesses following reports of damage caused to cars in Ramsgate.

"It was reported that between 7.30pm on Monday 14 August and 6.30am on Tuesday 15 August 2017, a number of cars parked in a private car park near Whitehall Road had damage caused to their paintwork.

"Officers are carrying out enquiries to identify the number of cars affected and locate the owners."
