Margate was back to its thrilling best over the Bank Holiday
weekend as a double header of top events sent visitors flocking to
the seaside.
Carter's Steam Fair evoked memories of Dreamland's fun and
vibrant past when it set up at the former amusement park on
Saturday, Sunday and Monday (May 29-31).
Popular attractions included the Gallopers carousel, which dates
back to 1895, and the Wall of Death, where motorcyclists ride their
bikes at 30mph inside a giant wooden cylinder with vertical
sides.
The thrilling historic rides were designed as a taster to the
world's first heritage amusement park, which is due to open at
Dreamland in 2012.
And the fun didn't stop there. On Monday, hundreds of bikers
roared into town on as part of Ace Café London's annual Margate
Meltdown.
Riders left the café, located just off the North Circular, at
10.30am and arrived in Margate in time for lunch.
The family-friendly day was a celebration of two-wheeled pride
and joy, with iconic bikes including Harley Davidsons, Triumphs and
BSAs, as well as modern favourites like Yamahas, Hondas and
Kawasakis, lining the streets.
