Chopper search called off

The RAF search and rescue helicopter

A search which was taking place off the eastern end of the Island after reports of an over-turned kayak has been called off.

Thames Coastguard said the RAF search and rescue helicopter and lifeboats were out looking off Warden Point after they were alerted to an over-turned kayak about a mile off Leysdown.

But the search was called off as nothing untoward was found.

According to the spokesman, the kayak had been there for some time.

The search was conducted to ensure there was no one in the water.
