Sea Cadets celebrate new boats

Sheppey Sea Cadets have been able to buy three boats thanks to a
generous donation from an Island charity.
The Dannyboy Trust (DBT) has given the unit £1,750 to purchase
three yoles – a specific craft which will allow them to train to
award British Rowing qualifications.
The sea cadets had already raised £2,000 towards the cost of the
three boats and applied to the DBT for the remainder of the
money.
DBT was set up in memory of Sheppey soldier Daniel Holkham, who
died while on duty in Afghanistan in March, 2010.
Members of the trust visited the unit’s headquarters to watch
the cadets in training.
The three yoles have been named after the DBT.
CPO Fiona Louch said: “We named the boats after the trust to
ensure this generosity would be continually remembered.
“We would like to thank the DBT for supporting us in our aim to
provide the maximum opportunities for the cadets.
“The yoles have already been, and will continue to be a very
well used and a much needed asset of Sheppey Sea Cadet Unit and the
wider sea cadet community.”
