Cold snap could signal snow on its way

Darren Prescott monitors the weather from his home in Bay View

A cold snap is set to return along with a chance of snow.

According to the Island’s very own weather oracle Darren Prescott there is 60% risk of snow for us at some stage next week.

Although he says the weather models which help to forecast what will happen are a bit uncertain, things seem to be moving towards a chilly spell.

Mr Prescott, who monitors the weather from his home in Bay View, said the general outlook is for high pressure to approach from the west which, if it links with the Scandinavian high, will turn very cold.

If this happens, there will be cold days and night frosts with snow moving in by next Thursday.

However, it could be that it will be a chilly weekend returning to milder weather with spells of rain by Monday.

Mr Prescott said: “I’d say the likelihood of a cold spell early next week is now 75%, with the risk of snow for us at some stage being at 60%.

“It’s still possible the cold will miss us or otherwise fail to materialise – it’s certainly not worth making plans just yet.”
