Minster teenager looks for help to organise Sheerness fundraiser

organising a fundraiser in memory of her grandfather
A teenager who lost her grandfather to cancer is appealing
to Islanders for their help in organising a fundraiser in his
memory.
Shannon Mitchell has already set a date and place for her summer
family fun day, but needs help with pulling together a few of the
details.
The 18-year-old wants to raise money for Cancer Research as her
granddad Ted Mitchell died from the disease aged 72 in 2011.
Money will also go to Sands, which supports people dealing with
the death of a baby and the New Road Community Centre in Minster,
where her mum Cheryl is manager.
The fun day will take place at the Ivy Leaf Bar in Sheerness on
Saturday, August 10.
There will be a range of stalls, activities for children, a
barbecue as well as performances from local talent in the
evening.
Shannon, who is studying health and social care at Canterbury
College Swale Campus in Sheerness, has also managed to secure some
signed goodies from celebrities including Peter Andre, Katie Piper,
Richard and Judy and DJ Target from Roll Deep, for an auction.
Now she is appealing to residents and businesses for donations
of hampers, vouchers for treatments, meals etc and other gifts for
a raffle as well as the auction.
She also hopes a printer will get in touch who will be willing
to print flyers, tickets and posters.
Shannon, of Harps Avenue, Minster, said she is hoping the event
will raise as much money as possible.
“I want to bring the community together,” she said.
“It will also be a chance to raise money for the charities and
have some fun.”
