Kent Highways has listened to concerns about a proposed road closure in Minster – and postponed the work until the summer holidays.
Last week we reported on Minster Parish Council’s fears that shutting Wards Hill Road for three weeks would cause problems for motorists.
Part of it was going to be cordoned off so a pedestrian crossing could be installed between the Lynmouth Drive junction with Love Lane.
Kent Highways has listened to concerns about closing Wards Hill Road, Minster, for three weeks during term time
The work was due to start on Monday, but after parish clerk Trish Codrington wrote a letter to Kent Highways, a site meeting was organised so they could talk about their worries.
She said the diversion was unworkable and there would be chaos and congestion in the area.
A highways spokesman said: “The future closure will be to enable road modifications and a pedestrian crossing.
"The scope of the works means the road does need to be closed for the safety of the workforce and the public.”
