Singer songwriter Amyy Baker
A singer songwriter with an unusual name says she’s hoping 2014 will be her year.
Despite not making it through to the next stage of the MTV Brand New Unsigned competition last month, Amyy Baker is still hopeful of becoming a recording artist one day.
The 19-year-old, of High Street, Eastchurch, is studying a BTEC in music and performance at Mid Kent College in Gillingham. She was given fresh hope after being contacted by Editors Keys which sells recording equipment.
She said: “I got my microphone from them two years ago but I broke it, I’m not sure how exactly it just packed up.
“I didn’t have any funds so I messaged them via Twitter last week asking if I could have a new cable and they sent me one for free along with some plectrums for my guitar.
"They then sent me an email saying they sponsor 12 people every year by giving them free equipment and they might consider me for next year. I should find out in January.
“I’m not too worried I didn’t make it through the MTV competition or find out how many votes I got.”
The part-time cashier at the Co-op in Church Road, Murston, added: “It did raise my profile though as I got more people following me on Twitter and liking my Facebook page.
“I’m hoping 2014 is my year.”
