Police ask public to help return 'stolen' garden power tools to owners

Police are appealing for the public's help in returning gardening tools, believed to be stolen in burglaries across west Kent, to their rightful owners.

Patrols initially arrested two men in connection with a theft after stopping a suspicious vehicle in Wrotham, on Friday.

A 20-year-old a man from East Peckham and a 22-year-old man from East Malling were later released pending further investigation.

Subsequent enquires then led to the discovery of suspicious items at properties linked to the suspects. These are described as follows:

  • A red, silver and black petrol hedge cutter, manufactured by Kawasaki and carrying an engine number - 275265
  • A red, black and silver Mitox petrol strimmer with a serial number 1211279500
  • A green, electric, grass strimmer with a serial number NIF-GT-240/250B

It is believed these items may have been stolen from sheds and outbuildings in rural areas of west Kent, or possibly from areas in Sussex.

As well as returning them to potential victims, police are hopeful that identification will also assist with enquiries into any offences committed.

Officers are also exploring the possibility that recent reported thefts of car and tractor batteries may also be linked.
