Bike thieves beware as Kent Police crack down on cycle security in Tonbridge

Cycle thieves will now face a much harder time stealing bikes from the Tonbridge area.

Cyclists arrived in the dozens at the latest bike security event run by Kent Police.

More than 80 people turned up at the mobile Police Station on Saturday, June 7, and officers security marked 66 bikes.

The free service was provided outside Halford's, Cannon Lane, and allowed visitors to get advice on bike security and other vehicle safety concerns.

The event was organised by PC Joe Breen and was the second marking event in the town in the last month.

He said: "Security marking your bike can really make a difference. It greatly increases the chances of having your bike reunited with you, if lost or stolen and also acts as a great deterrent to thieves.

"Although we offer the service for free, almost £130 was kindly donated from cyclists to the local neighbourhood watch scheme. We hope this can be reinvested to pay for more kits for events in the near future."
