A body has been recovered by police from the River Medway in Tonbridge.

Officers launched the search of the river in Tonbridge town centre following reports a teenage boy was seen jumping into the river near Tonbridge Castle around 10.45pm on Saturday. They reported that he got into difficulties while trying to swim to the bank.

On Sunday evening a police spokesman confirmed a body had been found. Police are unable to confirm identity.

The search involved a police helicopter from Essex and a police search and rescue unit, with footpaths near the river also being combed as part of the search.

Police said there was no information to class the incident as suspicious.
