Children can experience being a Knight or Princess at Hever Castle this summer

Children are invited to sign up for a spot of free medieval training at historic Hever Castle this summer.

Young visitors wishing to experience what it was like to be a Knight or Princess of the Realm can attend a school to prepare them for life in medieval times.

Suitable for children aged 6 – 12, classes include lots of hands-on activities to keep them entertained.

Knights in training learn how to prepare and protect armour and discover the best way to arm and disarm their master before battle.

Princesses are shown the correct way to give a proper and perfect curtsey, while everyone can experience what it was like to grow up and serve in a royal household.

At the end of each session, children will line up and march in order of highest ranking before the boys are knighted and girls demonstrate their curtsey.

Running from Monday, July 28 until September 3, sessions take place at 11.30 am, 12.30 am, 2.30 pm, 3.30 pm and 4.30 pm each day and children are encouraged to come in costume to enter the spirit of the event.

Places must be booked at the Information Hut on the day and slots will be given in time allocated order.

This summer’s packed programme of events over the school holidays will keep visitors of all ages entertained.

Hever Castle‘s spectacular Jousting Tournaments take place on August 9-10; 16-17; 23-25 and 30-31.

Additional activities over the school summer holidays include ‘Have-a-go Archery’* and boating on the 38-acre lake as well as trips on the African Queen Steam Boat.

Gardens open at 10.30am; Castle opens at 12 noon. Last admission 4.30pm; final exit 6pm.
