Tonbridge murder suspect Patrick Murphy appears in Sevenoaks Magistrates Court following death of his father Joe Murphy

A man accused of murdering his father in a double stabbing appeared in court this morning but entered no pleas.

Patrick Murphy stood before Sevenoaks Magistrates' Court but spoke only to confirm his name and address.

While standing in the dock for the two minute hearing he was handcuffed to an officer and told he would next appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Friday June 12.

The 29-year-old was last night charged with the murder of his father Joe Murphy.

He has been in custody since the incident, which took place in Hectorage Road, Tonbridge, on Tuesday night.

The defendant is also charged with grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of three knives in a public place.

During the attack, Murphy's 34-year-old brother, Mark, is believed to have suffered knife wounds to his throat, upper arm and hand.

He was flown to hospital in London in a serious condition.
