McDonalds restaurant in Cannon Lane, Tonbridge given approval

Planning permission has been approved for the installation of a new two-storey, 24-hour drive-thru McDonalds restaurant in Tonbridge.

Developer OTR said work is expected to begin on the site in Cannon Lane early next year.

The building plans have a modern design, as OTR wants to move away from the traditional exterior of some current McDonalds buildings.

Jane Docherty, managing partner at OTR said: "It will have a really modern feel, we want to change the look of the McDonalds branches and hope this will be aesthetically pleasing to all.

"It will have big glass windows and doors, and hopefully attract more custom to the town.

"There is a hope that jobs will be brought with the arrival of the new restaurant. Work is going as planned and we hope to see construction on site beginning next year."

A spokesperson for McDonalds said that there are no plans to shut the existing McDonalds restaurant in the High Street.

There is also 11,000 square feet of land on Cannon Lane that has been set aside for retail purposes but no decisions have been made.
